Abstract

Introduction: Plaque is a biofilm consisting of a group of bacteria that attached to the surface of teeth, dental restorations, and prosthetic teeth. Periodontal disease occurs in many developed and developing countries and accounts for about 20-50% of the world's population. In Indonesia, periodontal disease is a disease of the teeth and mouth that is mostly suffered by the population, namely 70%. Dental plaque is an etiological factor that causes periodontal disease. Brushing your teeth is the way most often used to perform oral hygiene. Fluoride is another antimicrobial agent that is combined in toothpaste and mouth rinses to prevent plaque buildup on the surface of teeth. Purpose: To know the effectiveness of using fluoride toothpaste in reducing the plaque score. Methods: Literature review was carried out based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria to be reviewed. Of the 11 studies used, all of them used experimental research methods with the type of original publication articles. The experimental population has a broad coverage. Results: Based on literature review results in 11 journals, other general compositions of fluoridated toothpaste was stannous fluoride and sodium fluoride, and there was effectiveness after routine use of fluoridated toothpaste in reducing plaque scores. Keywords: fluoridated toothpaste; tooth brush; laque score

Abstract

The quality and quantity of nutrition in children's food needs attention because it is a support for body growth. Good nutritional intake for children needs to be supported by the mother's ability to provide good care, in terms of providing food, maintaining personal and environmental hygiene, as well as seeking treatment. This study aims to analyze the differences in nutritional parenting patterns for toddlers before and after being given nutritional counseling using BOCESTING (booklets for stunting prevention) in Mantan Island, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands. The design of this experimental research is one group pretest and posttest. The sample is 43 mothers of children under five. Differences in the level of knowledge and nutrition parenting between before and after the intervention were analyzed using paired sample t-test. The results of the analysis showed the value of p = 0.000, so it can be interpreted that there is a difference in the level of knowledge between before and after giving counseling using BOCESTING. Thus, it can be concluded that counseling using BOCESTING is effective for increasing knowledge in the context of preventing stunting by mothers of children under five. Keywords: stunting; BOCESTING booklet; knowledge

Abstract

In Indonesia, preparation for childbirth is generally obtained through classes for pregnant women which are routinely held by the puskesmas or midwife clinic, but for the archipelago sometimes the presence of pregnant women is constrained by geographical conditions, limited transportation facilities, weather conditions and currently the Covid-19 pandemic situation. This condition can be overcome by presenting educational media for childbirth preparation. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of health education using “Si-ULIN” (Ready to Childbirth) pocket book on the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women on Mantang Island, Bintan Regency, Riau Archipelago Province. This type of research was a quasi-experimental with one group pretest posttest design. The study was conducted in October 2020, involving 36 third trimester pregnant women on Mantang Island, who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data about knowledge and attitudes were collected through filling out a questionnaire, then analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the average knowledge of pregnant women increased by 19.83 and the average attitude increased by 17.53 after being treated in the form of health education using the "Si-ULIN" pocket book. The p-value for differences in knowledge and attitudes before and after treatment were 0.000. This study concludes that “Si-ULIN” pocket book is effective in increasing the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women about preparation for childbirth. It is hoped that all pregnant women with limited access to attend classes for pregnant women can use the “Si-ULIN” pocket book as an educational medium for preparation for childbirth. Keywords: pregnant women; pocket book “Si-ULIN”; knowledge; attitude

Abstract

The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia in 2019 was 205 per 100,000 live births and the infant mortality rate was 16 per 1,000 live births. Maternal mortality is still caused by delays (late detection of danger signs of pregnancy, delay in reaching health facilities and delay in getting adequate help). Delay in referral causes preventable maternal deaths. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of using the “Si-JuRNalKu” booklet (Preparation for Maternal Neonatal Referrals in the Archipelago Region) on the knowledge and attitudes of midwives in the Riau Archipelago Province in 2020. This study is a quasi-experimental study by applying pre-posttest with control. design groups. The research was conducted in August 2020 on midwives who work on islands spread over 5 districts in the Riau Archipelago Province. The sample was 30 midwives who were selected by purposive sampling technique, then divided into 2 groups. Data about knowledge and attitudes in the pre- and post-treatment phases were collected through filling out questionnaires, then analyzed using independent samples t-test and paired samples t-test. The results showed that after the treatment, there were differences in the level of knowledge and attitudes of the two groups, with a p value of 0.000. The average increase in knowledge and attitudes are 24.33 and 23.37, respectively. Furthermore, it was concluded that the “Si-JuRNalKu” booklet was effective in increasing the knowledge and attitudes of midwives in preparing referrals in the archipelago. It is hoped that midwives can use the “Si-JuRNalKu” booklet in preparing referrals. Keywords: midwife; “Si-JuRNalKu” booklet, knowledge; attitude
